Malta under 18 girls to play for gold on Sunday 29th
The Malta under 18 women national team will be eyeing the gold medal on Sunday 29th July when they will play the final of the FIBA under 18 women Division C Championships which are being played in Andorra.
After topping the group following the group stage games, Malta faced the home side Andorra in the semifinal stage. Here our Maltese girls emerged 52-44 winners (click here to view the official game report).
The opponents in the semifinal are the surprise package of these championships, Gibraltar (5.30pm), who overcame Moldova 57-41 in the semifinal after being 23-30 behind at halftime.
These two sides had already met earlier this week in a group game and Malta had won 77-53.
The Malta Basketball Association augurs the under 18 girls a good game for the final.
This will be the 8th time in history that Malta will be on the podium in a women Under 18 Division C championship. The best ever result was achieved with a gold medal in 2007, yet it is worthy to mention that Malta now has a positive six year streak whereby a podium finish has always been had since 2013.
