Floriana Cafe del Mar to challenge Falken Cynergi Virtus for BOV Basketball 1st Division Title
Floriana Café del Mar and Falken Cynergi Virtus will face each other in the best-of-5 Playoff Final Series for the BOV Basketball 1st Division League title. Floriana overcame Luxol whilst Virtus ousted out Gzira Athleta in the semi-final series.
Virtus coach Paul Ferrante and Floriana coach Mario Tabone, accompanied by the respective foreign imports Chris Santo and Chad Patus, spoke to the media prior to their best-of-5 playoff final series starting this Sunday. They were accompanied by the Malta Basketball Association President Paul Sultana and Peter Perotti, Chief Officer from Bank of Valletta.
“As reigning champions, we are aware of the target on our backs but we are confident to repeat last year’s performance and retain the title,” said Paul Ferrante. “Cohesion between the players is even better than last season, which was the Club’s first year and we are looking forward to head into the Final Series for our fifth award of the season.”
“We are delighted to reach the Playoff Final for the second time in our history,” said Floriana Coach Mario Tabone. “We are buoyed by the fact that we were victorious in our last encounter with Virtus. This will fuel our momentum to end this season on a high.”
“Floriana and Virtus have shared victories over each other this season and we are expecting a highly contested and entertaining series,” said the MBA President. “It is interesting to note that for the first time in 15 years, Athleta will not be contesting the Final after being eliminated in the semi-finals. This is a clear indication that there were more teams playing at the highest level this season.”
